Dollar Tree crafts are so fun and make this penny-pincher so happy. Find out how to create farmhouse décor with a name sign and flower sconces for $10 with this Dollar Tree Farmhouse Décor DIY.
Have you been looking on Etsy at those cute personalized farmhouse name signs, but not wanting to spend the money? Well you are in luck! I will show you how you can make one just as cute but for a 1/10 of the price!

So here is what I got from the Dollar Tree for this farmhouse décor DIY. I have to tell you, I am a bit obsessed with the dollar store. Their craft section is amazing and I have been able to add so much farmhouse décor to my new home for only a tiny bit of money. I go there at least once a week. And the great thing is that I don’t have to feel bad about it because everything’s a dollar so I never end up spending that much!
First, you need a poster board. I would recommend the thick one and then we will cut it in half (so you actually can get two signs out of it!)
Then, you’ll want to get wood grain contact paper. This is usually in the isle with the shelf liners and plates.
If you are just making the sign, that’s all you need (unless you plan to paint the words, then grab some paint while you’re there too).
If you want to make the same full farmhouse decor set up I have in the picture, you’ll want to grab 2 8×10 canvases from the craft section, two mason jars – they should be right near where you got the contact paper, and then grab the flowers of your choice! You can alway pick up a strand of the jute twine to go around the top of the jars.
There you have it! Everything you need for $10! (In case you don’t want to go to the Dollar Store to get these items I have also linked to the same type of products on Amazon below.
- Poster board – $1
- Contact paper – $1
- 2 mason jars – $2
- 2 canvases – $2
- Flowers – $2

The Farmhouse Décor Sign
First, let’s make the sign. In full transparency I used my Cricut and cut out some vinyl to use as my words. This works great, but I know some fellow penny-pinchers will not be in the position to have a Cricut so feel free to free hand with a sharpie, paint it, or stencil it out! If you are thinking about getting a Cricut, check out my Money Saving Cricut Hack post before you buy!
The first step to make the sign is to measure out where the middle is and cut down it to have two long thin pieces. I find an exacto knife works best (but be careful, they are super sharp)!
Once you have your piece, measure out how long you will need the contact paper pieces. For mine, I did three inches on each side of the board.
Cut those out so that you have two long pieces for the top and bottom and two shorter pieces for the sides. Now remove the back of the contact paper and stick on the cardboard. Repeat until all 4 sides are covered.
Now all that’s left is to write on it or place you’re decal! Now for mine I did our last name and then est. with our wedding date. Feel free to use this as well or just put your last name. Maybe you instead just want it to say farmhouse, or welcome, it’s totally up to you. I am sure whatever you pick will turn out great. And then, viola, you have a super cute sign!
Bonus, remember, you have another piece of cardboard and plenty of contact paper left. So you can make another one that says something else, or maybe you want to make one as a gift.
Next, if you want to do the full farmhouse décor DIY, you can make the flower sconces to flank the sign.
This is super easy too! You’ll just need the canvases, flowers, and mason jars you got at the Dollar Tree.
Once the canvas is dry, get out your glue gun and place glue around the back edge of your mason jar. Then center it on the canvas and hold it down for about 30 seconds to dry. Make sure to take the lid insert out and then stick in your flowers!
Now, repeat that for the second one and then find your desired wall and hang them up!
Wasn’t that so easy! Now you have a beautiful focal point for your wall and you only spent $10!
