How I save money on common expenses by using Groupon deals.
I am going to tell you a secret. I actually met my husband because of a Groupon deal.
Yep, that’s right, now that probably sounds very strange, but let me elaborate. As a penny-pincher I don’t like paying full price for anything unless I absolutely have to. So I wanted to sign up for Match.com, but I didn’t want to pay the full price. I remembered seeing Groupon had a deal for their membership. So, I waited a little bit and sure enough, one day I checked and they had a 3 month membership to Match for about 70% off plus they had a code for another 20% off.
I bought the Groupon and saved a ton on something I wanted to buy anyway. Shortly after signing up, I started talking to this nice guy and a few years later we got married :). I am telling you folks, penny-pinching can really lead to great things!
My second favorite Groupon
Now, that is definitely my favorite deal story, but I have gotten a lot of other great savings on amazing things and experiences from using Groupon.
My second favorite deal story is how I was able to take a week long Italy vacation for $600 with airfare because of a Groupon deal! I absolutely love to travel, but hate to spend money. So any time I take a trip it is a very well thought out plan on how to go where I want, but not spend a ton. Groupon has really helped me do that. I have taken multiple trips to Europe (Paris, London, Italy) with vacation packages I bought on Groupon.
My friend and I took a trip to Italy through a package. We were able to get a package that gave us round trip airfare, a rental car, and hotel accommodations in Italy for a week for only $600! We left from NYC, flew into Milan, picked up our rental car, and drove to Tuscany and stayed in a beautiful hotel (with free breakfast!). Now, you are probably a little skeptical of how this deal works and if we were in a sketchy area or something for that price, let me tell you that was not the case. Our hotel was beautiful, clean, and located right on the town square in a cute little town in Tuscany called Montecatini.
The location was perfectly centrally located to travel all around the Tuscan countryside. We took day trips to Cinque Terre, Florence, Venice, and Pisa! It was an amazing trip and incredibly affordable! If you are looking to book your next vacation on a budget, make sure to book it here!
Here are some other ways I have saved tons on things I want to do with Groupon!
- Haircuts (pay under $50 for a cut and highlights at local salons – stop paying $200 for a cut and color!)
- Traveling around Italy
- Tickets (Groupon has amazing deals on local concerts and shows!)
- Match membership
- Gym membership (I was able to get a 3 month membership to my local gym for only $10! )
- Traveling to London/Paris

Groupon really is a great money saving tool. They almost always have an extra percentage off promo code to use to save even more. If you are looking at buying something and it’s not super time sensitive try to wait a day or two if you don’t see a code available (it’ll be at the top when you login) and there will probably be a new one when you check back.
